Warm afternoons, insects hatching and brown trout looking to the surface for a feed – A couple of weekends ago my old man and I had a great weekend fly fishing the Snowy Mountains region. After mid-week snow and rain the creeks were running well and the trout eager for well-presented dry flies. Below are a handful of images from the trip…

Do you catch to eat or catch and release
LikeLiked by 2 people
I do both. This trip was catch and release. Occasionally I take some because I love smoked trout

I get that, just don’t like the idea of being a fox, ie just catching and killing when they may not get eaten.

Living in New Zealand, fly fishing is not as popular as i believe it is in the snowy mountains!

You are probably right. There is a higher population of people in NSW and not as many areas that support trout. NZ on the other hand has trout everywhere and very few people!

Looking at this I realize I have to try my hand on fishing one day! I live in NZ so should not be hard to find places

Definitely give it a try! And you’re right, there is no shortage of trout in NZ!

This is great! Any good spots out in the southeast?

Snowy mountain streams are always great. Creeks in the south east fish well unless there has been a drought
